Meet Sebastian Ponce, a DJ and wellness visionary whose journey has taken him from spinning records in Europe's hottest clubs to creating a unique fusion of music and mindful living through his record label, Alchemystica. A dedicated wellness practitioner, Sebastian blends his passions for yoga, meditation, and alternative medicine with the pulsating beats of underground organic house. His mission? To offer a dance floor experience that’s as transformative as it is electrifying, where attendees can shed social barriers, tune into their true selves, and embrace the moment—no stimulants required. In this interview, we explore Sebastian’s journey, his mindful approach
to music, and how he’s redefining nightlife with his “zen-meets-rave” ethos.
What inspired you to create a record label that’s both about music and wellness? Were you spinning records one day and thought, “This needs more meditation”? I was touring around Europe, DJing in Berlin, Barcelona, Prague, and Athens. This was precisely what I had manifested, but I did not find the meaning I thought I would carry, being a wellness practitioner, starting with my yoga, meditation, breath, work, affirmations, restructuring my mind, and serving for the greater good did not align with the house music scene. Especially in the sense that there was a lot of escapism and there was a lack of integration my vision to open a new space where underground organic mystical melodies meet creative, wellness expression through the help of alternative medicine therapies and herbal remedies. by going through a method of somatic movement breath work complementary alternative medicine and instruction through trusted healers and artists who act as alchemists; you tap into new energy when you arrive into the floor, social barriers, relax, state of mind, no need for stimulants or depressants, you are in the present moment and don’t need anything else what is always has been.
How do you find balance between the high-energy world of DJing and the calming essence of wellness? Do you have a favorite ritual before a set? Well, these are my two passions, music and my Sadhana (spiritual practice), and they both complement each other because the expression of my heart is Music, and my duty as an alternative medicine practitioner and therapist is to expand as much as I can through the light and help others find theirs. I have a mission to share the power of noninvasive holistic naturopathic medicine with the world as it has healed my herniated discs, skin, mind, and heart.
My favorite ritual to experience before practicing is breath retention techniques, where you hold through an inhale as long as you can and slowly exhale out and hold again as long as you can at least 20 to 50 cycles, that helps me into the present moment and understand that any type of fear is just excitement, fear is the mind-killer, and I must acknowledge the blood that I have which comes from my dad, a fantastic musician, and Dj, and my mom, being a very spiritual figure leading me to find balance within herbs to align my internal elements.
If you could create the ultimate “zen-meets-rave” playlist, what three tracks would absolutely make the cut? Inevitable ending - Vken Arman mix - Goldcap, Toe nu extended mix - lum, Enigma - the voice of enigma
What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve discovered about blending wellness with music? Any quirky or surprising techniques? People are not as resistant as I thought them to be, the synthesizer, which makes people familiar with techno and House music sounds, makes them ground into a familiar place. While studying Himalayan Bowls and Sound Healing Techniques in Nepal, I visualized the fusion of the guitar synthesizer and the sound bolts mixed with DJ, my favorite tracks in the realm of organic, minimal, and progressive house. A beautiful technique that has risen is the combination of the fridge in dominant scale, Dorian scale, and anion scales fused with the tuning of my guitar in 432 Hz, tuning the synthesizer to 256 Hz, and playing with nature sounds recorded in different soundscapes. Also, part of my record label ensemble med soundscapes projects is where I can fuse sacred frequencies and guided meditations with Organic House.
Tell us about “Holistic Alchemyst”—what’s the vibe, and how does it tie into your creative vision? The Holistic Alchemyst is a version of myself that has evolved through the integration of my deepest wounds and traumas as an emotional soul (cancer sun and cancer moon); I can feel deeply, and I do not hold back. My closest friends know how deeply I feel. Of course, it can be challenging, but that is why I have chosen a fusion path into Himalayan sound harmonization techniques, Reiki energy, balancing and clearing, and energy sciences. This project shares the fusion of art introspection and choosing to learn from my highest self. It does not aim to share the best version of myself but me going through my process, inspiring others to do so. I used to fear the camera, especially about being judged by others without noticing that it was myself who was judging me, so this is a practice of sharing my passions and talents without seeking to be rewarded.
For someone who’s completely new to wellness but loves music, what would be your top recommendation to introduce them to your world? Experience Sound Healing with breath work, dance afterward, and tell me the difference between taking seven shots of tequila before getting into a party VS integrating the medicine with friends, forging a new connection, and learning with an open heart. It does not need to be one or the other; it can be. This is just a new modality for you to experience.
What’s one wellness practice you think every DJ could benefit from, especially after a long night on the decks? Breath work. Before, during, or after the set. It will help clear your mind from critiques, centering you into the present moment without needing external stimulation. After getting home, I must integrate the night, the successes, and the room for improvement, sharing a nice meal without any distractions and possibly reading a book to the ground. If we continue that excessive stimulation after the set with social media, movies, fast food, instant gratification…. we won’t progress and be caught in the constant serotonin-dopamine feedback loop.
Your Instagram looks like a blend of nightclub energy and mindful living. How do you stay true to both sides, and how do they influence each other? Well that’s why I have 2 instagrams: Bastiansedj and holisticalchemysts
They complement each other because if I am not expressing my art with my heart, I cannot ground and go deep into my practice. Sound Bowls that Nepal gifted me is my favorite way to tune into my senses combined with aromatherapy, helps me hold space for others to heal themselves, I do not heal anybody, people match the frequency of technique and can find the light within themselves. I have become a new version of Bastiansé, where the project has turned into life.
Live Projects are now a fusion of life, synthesizers, Middle Eastern desertic, guitar melodies, 10 singing bowls, and a hypnotic DJ mix fusing groovy beats with ancient sounds.
If you could invite any three people, living or historical, to a “mindful dance party” hosted by you, who would be on that exclusive guest list? Rodriguez Jr., Satori, Matías di Stefano
What’s next for you? Any new projects or dreams that mix beats and balance that we should be looking out for? I will post recurring releases through my record label, Alchemystica. Hopefully, I will secure a gig or residency soon at Do not Sit on the Furniture. I’ve begun hosting events through the connections of my new community in Miami, filled with artists, Healers, and great musicians, where we bring the concept to life.
I’m also working on a spoken word album with my friend Estefanía Tarre, which I’ve never experienced before. I will also be part of wellness festivals and retreats and possibly move to Ibiza soon.
My next release is Ferock, a meditative soundscape that engulfs sacred frequencies with hypnotic layers of healing sounds into a downtempo/organic house. Stay tuned!!
