TRAFFIC JAM IN THE SAND: Order of Importance

December 8, 2019      vibes around town

Commissioned by the City of Miami Beach, Argentinian artist Leandro Elrich’s new installation “Order of Importance” was a monumental piece drawing art lovers and beachgoers alike. Sixty-six life-sized sand sculptures of cars and trucks stood still between guardrails on the oceanfront at the end of the infamous Lincoln Road. The work was the largest ever produced by the artist, who is internationally renowned for disrupting the audience’s natural view of the world. Speaking to climate change, the all-too-familiar traffic scene slowly began to disintegrate throughout the week as the elements took their toll.
